Ostraciiform
About this Tag
Ostraciiform locomotion is restricted to species with bodies that are laterally inflexible. Undulation is restricted to the caudal fin and all propulsion comes from 'wagging' the tail. Ostraciiform swimmers vary greatly in body shape, but are usually unstreamlined and tend to be slow swimmers. Many have armored bodies and/or protective spines.
