Sit-and-wait

About this Tag

Sit-and-wait ambush predators are carnivorous and capture prey by stealth rather than by swimming speed or strength. They usually hide motionless on the seafloor and wait for prey to come within striking distance. They are usually solitary and camouflaged. This mode of predation may be most efficient when a predator cannot move faster than its preferred prey.
