Physoclistous gas bladder

About this Tag

In fish with physoclistous gas bladders, the pneumatic duct, which is a connection between the gas bladder and the gut, is lost in adults, if it was present at all during development. Instead, the gas pressure of the gas bladder is regulated by special tissues or glands. This is typical of advanced spiny-rayed fishes.
