Anadromous and freshwater.
Remarks:
Northern lampreys live in cool zones of the Northern Hemisphere, generally north 30°N. They are anadromous and can appear as species pairs, parasitic and non-parasitic species. These lampreys have eel-like body; scales and paired fins absent; 1-2 dorsal fins, and jawless vertebrates with cartilaginous skeleton and notochord. Adults can reach to a maximum length of 120 cm.
The family consists of two subfamilies, Petromyzontinae and Lampetrinae, eight genera with 34 species.
