Distribution:
Circumglobal; teleost;marine; brackish;
Habitat:
Coastal marine, brackish water, some freshwater, mostly in tropical and temperate seas.
Remarks:
The mullets or grey mullets are a family of large, marine fishes inhabiting estuaries, coastal waters, brackish waters, and even freshwater. Found worldwide, the grey mullets have thick, compressed body, small mouth and teeth, blunted head, and ctenoid scales. Their distinctive physical characteristics include four separated spiny-rayed spines and soft-rayed (8-10 total) on dorsal fins, two to three spines and soft-rayed (7-11 total) on anal fin, pectoral fins high on body, and lateral line sometimes absent or faded.

Max size: 1.2 m

The family Mugilidae consists of 17 genera with about 72 species.
