Remarks:
The Acanthuridae family is distributed circumtropically except in the Mediterranean Sea. These reef-associated inhabitants have a highly compressed body with large round eyes high on the head, small rough-edged scales, and a single unnotched dorsal fin with 4-9 spines and 19-31 rays. They typically graze on benthic algae and zooplankton. They come in a variety of bright colors and are popular in aquarium trade.
This family consists of six genera and about 80 species.
