Remarks:
Cuskeels are found circumglobally and have an eel-like, tapering body with long-based dorsal fin, usually equal or longer than anal fin and continuous with the tail fin. The pelvic fins are rarely absent and situated under the eye. They feed on crustaceans and fishes and spend most of the day in caves and crevices.
Maximum length can reach 2 m.
The family comprises of four subfamilies with 48 genera and approximately 222 species.
