Distribution:
Eastern Atlantic, the Mediterranean Sea and off South Africa
Remarks:
Picarel porgies are planktivorous, with highly protrusible upper jaws. The dorsal fin is continuous.
This family achieves a maximum length of about 83 cm.
This family comprises two genera: Centracanthus and Spicara, and a total of 8 species.
