About This Family
Distribution:
Tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans.
Habitat:
Marine. Occurs in depths between 120 and 2000 m, benthopelagic as adults, mesopelagic as juveniles.
Remarks:
Red whalefishes are deep-sea fishes, closely related to the flabby whalefishes. The color in life is a bright red-orange.
