About This Family
Distribution:
Indian Ocean and eastern Atlantic Ocean (off Angola).
Habitat:
Reef-associated, coastal waters.
Remarks:
Cavebasses have a protruding lower jaw, fins covered with scales, and a lateral line which extends to the end of the caudal fin. They also have a large swim bladder with three pairs of intrinsic muscles.
This family comprises two genera and two species, Centrarchops chapini of the eastern Atlantic and Dinoperca petersi of the western Indian Ocean.
